The ŠKODA Scala is a great value family hatchback that more than holds its own against rivals, delivering space aplenty, a comfortable ride and easy driveability. It’s a practical car too, thanks it its spacious cabin and generous boot. What’s more, the Scala comes well-specified as standard, and there are four fine trim levels to choose from: S, SE, SE L and Monte Carlo.
Whether you’re a business user or the designated driver for a busy family, you’ll appreciate the ŠKODA Scala’s subtle stylishness. A rising shoulder line and gently swooping roofline, which culminates in a rear spoiler, give a sense of understated athleticism, while a wide stance gives the model a purposeful attitude. S grades ride on 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights come as standard for optimum visibility.
Of course, the further up the trims you move, the features are included. For instance, SE grades add front fog lamps, and SE L trims offer privacy glass. Meanwhile, top-level Monte Carlo grades feature a panoramic glass roof for that extra feeling of light and spaciousness. Finish the look with a choice of striking paint colours, including Energy Blue, Candy White, Black Magic Pearl, Phoenix Orange and Velvet Red.
The fist thing you’ll notice when you step inside the ŠKODA Scala is that it affords lots of room for travellers in both compartments. Indeed, this practical hatch provides space for three adults in the back, making even the longest of journeys comfortable. And with all seats in position, a 467-litre boot ensures you can bring everything you need along for the ride. With the 60/40 split-folding rear seats dropped, cargo capacity rises to a highly competitive 1,270 litres.
Entry-level S trims are supplied with a 6.5-inch colour display and a four-speaker sound system that includes DAB digital radio. As well as AUX and USB ports, you’ll have access to Bluetooth connectivity, which facilitates audio streaming and hands-free telephony. All models are also fitted with Front Assist and Lane Assist for your protection. Both use radar technology, and the former warns against potential collisions while the latter provides an alert if the car begins to drift out of its lane.
A range of petrol engines is available for the ŠKODA Scala, including a standard-issue 1.0-litre 94bhp unit. This is the most efficient option, returning a combined fuel economy of 53.8mg and producing CO2 emissions from just 119g/km. As you might expect from the top-tier Monte Carlo trim, it offers optimal pace and power: 250Nm of torque and a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 8.5 seconds.
