Due to its attractive appearance alone, this mid-sized SUV represents a fine choice for families and businesses alike. And whichever trim you choose, it'll offer genuine kerb appeal while seamlessly blending practicality and desirability. The vehicle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, designed to impress but also highly durable and sufficiently lightweight that they deliver optimal efficiency. The vehicle’s raised ride height not only confers considerable presence, it allows easier access into both passenger compartments.The new ŠKODA Karoq comes with a striking Energy Blue solid paint finish as standard. However, there are plenty of optional colours to choose from too, including metallic coats such as Moon White and Phoenix Orange, and pearl finishes that include Black Magic and Velvet Red.

There’s plenty of space to get comfortable in both compartments, especially since a tall roofline delivers lots of headroom. The driver in particular will find it easy to get comfortable thanks to a seat and steering wheel that offer plenty of adjustability options. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s well-proportioned 521-litre boot space expands to 1,630 litres with rear seats folded.

Engines and performance

The new ŠKODA Karoq is supplied with a range of engine options, from a standard-issue 1.0-litre 108bhp unit to a 2.0-litre 147bhp powertrain, which is installed with SportLine trims. This means there’s something to satisfy a wide range of motoring tastes. It’s the 2.0-litre 114bhp engine that is most affordable to run, returning up to 58.9mpg while producing CO₂ emissions from just 125g/km. Meanwhile, as you’d expect from the name, SportLine grades deliver the greatest oomph: 0-62mph in around nine seconds, while managing a very creditable 48.7mpg. Another benefit of this 147bhp option is that it features four-wheel drive, making the Karoq a genuine go-anywhere SUV.

And there are three drive modes to choose from: Normal, Sport and ECO (as well as fourth mode available only with 4x4 iterations). These provide you with an easy way to adapt to varying driving conditions. And all engines feature Start/Stop system, which saves on fuel costs by cutting the engine whenever the car comes to a natural stop.

Technology and safety

Entry-level SE Drive trims are fitted with an eight-inch Amundsen touchscreen infotainment system as standard. This provides access to satellite navigation and an eight-speaker sound system with DAB radio, AUX and USB-C ports, Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone integration.

As you’d expect from a multi-award winning family vehicle, the ŠKODA Karoq comes with Euro NCAP’s full five-star crash-test rating. And this accomplished SUV is furnished with all manner of passive and active protective features as standard. In addition to numerous airbags, seatbelt reminders and ISOFIX child-seat attachments, there are myriad driver aids. For instance, rear-mounted sensors make reversing the car into a potentially awkward parking space easier than you might anticipate. And when driving at speeds of 40mph or higher, the Driver Fatigue Sensor monitors movement via the power-assisted steering, warning of any input abnormalities and signalling when it’s time to take a break.
